Thanks For Stopping By!!!

So after 3 years of trying… we were super excited to find out that all three of our adopted kids were accepted into Trinity Christian school for the 21-22 school year.  Private school is spendy!! Like…. 20k a year spendy.  This would be possible but a very tough nut to crack with a stay home mom, 4 kids and one on the way.  Luckily there is a super easy way you can help these kids go to this amazing school all at no cost to you!

If you have any Arizona State Tax Liability this year (even if some or all of it has already been removed from your check through withholding tax) you may assign it (dollar for dollar) to the tuition fund for one of these incredible kids.  If you’ve already paid it, you can simply note your donation on your taxes and you’ll get it back as a refund check from the government.   All it takes is 5 minutes and a notation on your tax return.  That’s it.  For a more detailed explanation and a 90 second video of exactly how you can maximize your Arizona tax credit click here How it Works – Arizona Tuition Organization (azto.org)   If we get more than we need it will roll over into next year.  Lastly, if you don’t owe tax but have a bunch of cash you enjoy spending on worthy causes you can use the same link to help out.  You’ll even get a receipt for your federallly tax deductible donation.  Any amount helps!  If you’d like to help…CLICK HERE

Amiera Furlan (8th Grade)

Amiera is a delightful child.  She excels in memorization, writing, and art.   At Mountain Oak she played the lead in the schools ambitious production of “The Odyssey” memorizing over 80 lines of dialogue for the sixth grade play.  Amiera has a gift for language, syntax and sentence structure.  She writes clearly and cleanly and spells well.  She has a quirky sense of humor and conversational writing style that is unusual in a child her age.  Her writing often has a touch of wry humor that just cracks me and her mom up.  In addition to her strengths in writing and memorization Amiera loves art, particularly humorous cartooning and flowy calligraphy.   While Amiera has struggled with math in the past, the private tutoring she’s received over this year from Morae (a Trinity school teacher and neighborhood friend) has made a huge difference.  Her diligence and perseverance has really paid off.  When we applied to Trinity in April we were surprised to find she  actually scored higher on the math portion of the entrance exam than any other subject!  Amiera has great social skills and is quick to make friends in any setting.  She’s clever and quick, funny and full of energy most of the time.  She’s agile and athletic as well and hopes to get back into gymnastics this year.  Amiera is also an accomplished baker.  This year she launched a little cupcake business (www.hairbyjoey.com/loved) out of my hair salon and is making a tidy profit every month.  She buys her own supplies, bakes twice a week and sells out every batch.

Isaiah Furlan (6th Grade)

Isaiah is a motivated kid.  When he wants something, he gets after it.  Isaiah is charming and funny with a sly, mischievous sense of humor.  He can come across as shy initially but don’t be fooled! This kid is confident and focused (even a bit cocky at times).  A natural leader Isaiah can get a group moving in his direction.  Thoughtful and very intelligent he tackles problems and challenges with a tenacity rare in a child his age.  Isaiah excels in mathematics and engineering.  At 11 he’s already become the default “tech guy” around our house.  Like most boys his age he loves video games, running around, wrestling and playing hard.  Isaiah also has a quiet side.  He can read for hours and write thoughtfully.  Isaiah gets concepts quickly and is able to comprehend and convey just about anything he sets his mind to study.  Since he was 8 Isaiah has been playing (and winning) complex board games designed for teenagers as well as Chess and Scrabble.  Wanting to earn some extra cash Isiah  launched his own shoe shine business this year (www.hairbyjoey.com/sonshine).  He researched the craft on youtube, bought all his own equipment on Amazon and set about becoming Prescott’s premier shoeshine guy.  In addition Isaiah works at dad’s salon on Saturdays helping the stylists and keeping the salon in order.

Emrys Furlan (2nd Grade)

Emrys is a joyful child.  His default setting is cheerful, exuberant and bursting with energy!  Emrys is kind, sensitive and about as friendly a child as you’re likely to find!  He’s a kid you really can’t write about without a lot of exclamation points!  Emrys’ challenge (and advantage) is always walking in the shadow of his clever and dominant older brother Isaiah (and to a lesser degree his big sister Amiera).  While a source of endless competition, aggravation and frustration for the little guy this dynamic gives Emrys the motivation to always run hard to keep up (so to speak).  As a result, Emrys has shown a remarkable gift for communication and conceptual understanding at a very young age. He wants to do everything his older brother does so he’s always pushing the edge of his capabilities, in games, in athletics… in life.   Emrys is articulate and quite capable of conveying complex, nuanced ideas and feelings. When he’s upset, excited or sad Emrys can let you know where he’s at in astonishingly mature language for one so young.  Emrys struggled mightily to focus all his bouncy energy into homeschool this year but particularly in recent months has shown an aptitude for both math and reading.  Emmy (his nickname) has a natural ,gentleness and compassion for everyone around him (except for his brother and sister who he’s constantly competing with). A very kinetic person he loves touching, smelling… physically exploring anything he can get his hands on.   He’s one of the loudest people I know but the loudness is mostly just his exuberance… his lust for life… and his love of language and expression bursting out!
